Interactive Effects debuts software for Octane2 at IBC 2000

AMSTERDAM, The Netherlands, IBC Stand 7.440 (September 9, 2000)- Interactive Effects, Inc., developers of high end software for film and video, today announced the release of the Piranha Visual Effects system for the Silicon Graphics® Octane2™ visual workstation at IBC 2000.

Piranha, an online compositing, editing and paint box solution for film and video, makes special use of the Octane2 system's advanced frame buffer, texturing capabilities, and 48-bit RGBA, to deliver highly interactive hardware effects on the new platform.

"Interactive Effects sets itself apart with its latest innovations for the Piranha Visual Effects system," said Mary Reeves, entertainment marketing manager, SGI. "Piranha 3.3 takes advantage of the industry-leading performance and features of the Octane2 visual workstation, such as advanced texture management and deep pixel resolution, to deliver a higher level of editing and compositing performance."

"The Octane2 sets a new watermark for graphics performance with our software. Users can now manage film scans and large 4K plates on an Octane2 system, which was not previously possible on a desktop system. They can get the color precision they need without an additional software rendering step. The new Octane2 platform allows us to deliver a solid film system with a significantly smaller foot print and price tag," said Tom Benoist, president of Interactive Effects.

Interactive Effects will be demonstrating the capabilities of the PiranhaHD and PiranhaEDIT as a special presentation in SGI Stand 440, located in Hall 7, at the IBC conference, September 8-12 in Amsterdam.
