Nucoda Announces New Open-Systems Initiative For DI
And Demonstrates Seamless End to End Film Finishing Using Systems from Multiple Manufacturers
IBC 2004, Amsterdam, 10 September 2004: www.nucoda.com: London-based Nucoda, developer of advanced digital media solutions for film and video, and several other manufacturers of solutions for Digital Intermediate, are announcing a new collaborative Open-Systems Initiative for film and video finishing, at IBC 2004. Nucoda, Bright Systems, Digital Voodoo, MTI Film and The Foundry are promoting the benefits of using software applications based on open architecture by showing the ease with which they can be used together to form a seamless integrated DI workflow.
Nucoda has instigated this Initiative to demonstrate how an open architecture plays a vital role in significantly accelerating workflow by allowing multiple users to access media simultaneously from a number of applications at any point during the DI process.
"Closed systems are very limiting from an operational and usability viewpoint," said Peter Lambert, Executive Chairman, Nucoda. "Our Open-Systems Initiative promotes the benefits of open architecture and brings greater choice to users without restricting interoperability between applications. In this way editors, artists and colorists using different systems can work together seamlessly on the same project. Speed, efficiency and flexibility of workflow are the key objectives."
At IBC 2004, the Open-Systems Initiative will be demonstrated on Nucoda's stand (7.809) using Nucoda Data Conform for conform and review, and Film Master for film finishing; Bright Systems from Nevada, is supplying the shared storage network with its BrightSAN Infrastructure products; Digital Voodoo is providing BlueFish444 video capture to DPX files; MTI Film from Rhode Island, is providing the dust-bust and dirt removal part of the process with its CORRECT products; and London-based The Foundry is showing its OFX-based plug-ins (Furnace's optical flow retimer, wire removal and grain tools, Keylight and a selection of Tinder effects).
"Workflow efficiency in the transition beyond video resolutions has been a major hurdle in the wide adoption of data infrastructures," said Antony Harris, CEO, Bright Systems. "We are proud to support the Open-Systems Initiative which makes resolution independent finishing on a single, common infrastructure a reality."
"The Open-Systems Initiative promotes the use of solutions for DI based on open platforms, thus helping customers to avoid being locked in to a single closed system," said Craige Mott, Managing Director, Digital Voodoo. "Users have the freedom to choose products from a range of developers to suit their requirements and budgets without having to worry about compatibility."
"MTI Film is very excited to be part of this growing group of companies offering software with increased efficiencies for working in the digital film finishing arena," said Pat Howley, Director of Sales, MTI Film. "We are great believers in this new Open-Systems Initiative."
