Here we are in Vegas again for another year of exciting NAB 2010..

Avid is moving along in full force: Three big announcements here. 1: Avid is acquiring Euphonics and can now provide Audio panels from $1500 to $300k USD. 2: Student version of Media Composer, including 4 years upgrades included $295 USD 3: V5 Media Composer, Symphony and News Cutter: Mc soft nitris, mojo dx , DS nitris AMA: avid media access Greater support for more formats without headaches, no transcoding Red, QuickTime prores, canon xf, avchd, p2, gfcam just link and hit play start editing. Rtas plugins, xdcam HD capture in native format. Support for Matrox mxo 2 mini monitoring (about $450 USD) Mojo dx reduced price Drag and drop editing. Anything that plays in QuickTime will play in avid Mix and match, broadcast ready to play out. Blu-Ray burning, via avid DVD and Win only. Adrenaline hardware still supported.
Assimilate are following on from the Avid story allowing many new features to help complete high end 4K and 2K workflow.

Scratch 5.1 Now runs native in 64 bit. New features include Stereo Convergence, Stereo Link, Versioning, Dual RedRocket, MXF, Arri file formats There is a new Titling tool inside Scratch An Html web server based review and approval, notes come back into scratch. This was demonstrated working with the new Apple pad, where a Scratch timeline was exported to the pad, review and approval notes were submitted from the pad and showed up moments later in the Scratch Timeline. Assimilate & Avid: complete the workflow... Scratch can now write back to media composer and can export to any of the Avid formats as well as most of the new quicktime Prores formats.
Lasergraphics have introduced a new version of their scanning software for the Director 2K Scanner.

The software now gives you realtime thumbnails while loading and shuttling through your film. This makes the setup process so much more interactive and accurate. Along with this feature is the addition of automatic Scene detection.


Boxx Technologies are showcasing their new render solutions featuring the new 6core cpus.
This new personal renderstation has 12 cores available in a new super quiet compact chassis.
Stack 5 of these across a 19" rack for 60 cores per shelf or put it under your bench in the office one at a time.
The larger Renderboxx 10400 series now give you a stunning 120 cores of power across one 19" rack shelf.

ORAD with the help of some good looking models were showcasing their latest Virtual set capabilities revealing unprecedented speed and 3d capabilities within a realtime video environment at a very cost effective solution that is easy to run and manage.

Now for the shock of the Show...
Blackmagic have released a Mac OSX version of Davinci Resolve for $995 USD.

Thats right $995, yesterday a turnkey Davinci Resolve would have costed you about $450,000 today you can add it to your mac for under $1000. And just add a Tangent wave and you are set as a professional Colour grader.
